Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has faced another trouble in his back due to which he is missing the ongoing high-octane clash between India and Pakistan. Notably, both teams are locking horns in this much-awaited clash at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Indian team management has included the star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul in the playing XI to replace Iyer who sustained a back spasm during the practice session.

Notably, KL Rahul is making his comeback in Team India after a long wait due to the injury, he sustained during the Indian Premier League 2023. He also missed the first two matches in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2023 owing to the incomplete recovery from the injury.

“Iyer picked up a spasm in the back very late,” said Indian skipper Rohit Sharma at the time of the toss for the match against Pakistan.

Apart from that, skipper Rohit Sharma also spoke about the team combination and also expressed his take on being asked to bat by Pakistan after the latter won the toss.

"We'd have batted first. Yes, there will be challenges facing their bowlers, and we'll have to put runs on the board. Every game from here on is important for us. Need to focus on one thing at a time. Bumrah is back, KL Rahul replaces Iyer,” said Rohit.

Speaking of the current action of the match, India have scored 38 runs in 6.5 overs as openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have provided a quick and stable start to the men in blue. Rohit and Gill are there in the middle on the individual scores of 10 and 26 runs, respectively.

Coming back to Shreyas Iyer’s omission from the playing XI, he came into bat for India when they faced Pakistan last time in the group stage. He got a good start with a few boundaries off Haris Rauf but the sudden back spasm forced the management to include KL Rahul to replace him in the XI.
