In the 53rd game of the ongoing IPL 2023, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings played a reverse fixture against each other. In the previous game, the Kings won by a small margin via the DLS method in Mohali. Talking about both teams, the 2014 finalists won five games out of 10 games coming into this game. On the other hand, KKR had only four wins to their name in 10 games.

In this game, PBKS won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a quick start but lost three wickets inside the powerplay. The Red Army got 58 runs in six overs. The likes of Prabhsimran Singh, Liam Livingstone, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa got out early. At this stage, the likes of Jitesh Sharma and skipper Shikhar Dhawan 53 runs while playing steadily.

The latter scored another fifty in the ongoing season. In the end, cameos from Rishi Dhawan (19), Shahrukh Khan (21*), and Harpreet Brar (17) helped the team reach 179/7. For the two-time winners, Varun Chakravarthy took three wickets while Harshit Rana took two. On the other hand, Suyash Sharma and Nitish Rana took one each.

In reply, the home team, KKR got off to a slow start and lost the wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz inside the powerplay. They only got 39 runs in the first five overs. In the last over of the field restrictions, they scored 13 runs to get going. Despite the Punjab not being able to take regular wickets, they managed to increase the required run rate. From over number seventh to 15th, the team could take two wickets and managed to restrict them to 122/3.

In the last five overs, the Purple Brigade needed 58 runs. The 16th over could only yearn seven runs. However, things changed in the 17th, 18th, and 19th over, they got 15, 10, and 20 runs respectively with Andre Russell and Rinku Singh batting in the middle.
