It looks like everything is not going well in Pakistan cricket just ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023; the team is set to fly to India on Monday, September 25 for the marquee international tournament and the squad announcement is still awaited from the selectors Pakistan Cricket Board.
Meanwhile, they have faced another blow as former Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez left the Pakistan cricket technical committee amidst the confusion and conundrums in Pakistan cricket. Hafeez announced his decision to leave the committee in a tweet on his official X handle. Earlier, he was in the headlines for defending current skipper Babar Azam after Pakistan’s poor outings in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023.
“I decided to leave the Pakistan Cricket Technical Committee. I served as an honorary member. I would like to thank Zaka Ashraf SB for giving me this opportunity. I'm always available whenever Zaka Ashraf sb need my honest suggestions for Pakistan cricket. My best wishes for Pakistan cricket as always. Pakistan Zindabad,” wrote Hafeez in his tweet.

Notably, Pakistan didn’t have the expected outings in the Asia Cup 2023 as they could win only two matches out of the four matches, they played in the tournament. Pakistan won against the lower ranked teams like Nepal and Bangladesh in the group stage and Super-4 round, respectively.
Later on, they lost against India by a massive margin of 228 runs followed by a close-margin defeat of two wickets against Sri Lanka in the virtual semi-final of the tournament, which was also the last group-stage match for Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
There have been a lot of questions in the Pakistan cricketing fraternity among the cricket fans and the experts of the game around the squad and selection of some players. Babar Azam’s men will start their ODI World Cup 2023 with their campaign opener against the Netherlands on Friday, September 6.
Here's how fans reacted to Mohammad Hafeez's decision to leave the technical committee:
