'Akele aakhir kitna hi karta' - Fans react as Shubman Gill registers his fifth ODI International century against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2023

The match number six of the Asia Cup 2023 saw India taking on Bangladesh in a dead rubber as the outcome of this match would not affect the final which will be played on Sunday. In the match, the India team were given a target of 266 runs to win against a spin-friendly wicket. It is to be considered that it is a tailor-made situation for Bangladeshi bowlers at Colombo's R Premadasa Stadium.

After a poor start to the chase, Shubman Gill showcased his prowess by notching up his fifth century in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). The 24-year-old displayed remarkable composure, striking six boundaries and clearing the ropes four times on his way to the century. It took him 117 deliveries to achieve this milestone. Along with that, in the process, he also surpassed 1000 runs in the ODI format for the calendar year 2023.

Gill took on the role of anchoring India's innings as an opener. The star India batter steadied the ship even as wickets fell at the other end. But after playing a gritty knock of 121 runs off 133 deliveries courtesy of eight boundaries and five monstrous sixes. However, the star India batter would have expected to get India over the lines but unfortunately perished to a consistent bowling from Mahedi Hasan.
