After a thumping win in the first ODI, the Indian team once again faced Zimbabwe for the second One Day International on Saturday. Indian captain KL Rahul once again called it correctly at the toss and once again invited the Zimbabwe team to bat first. The Zimbabwe openers walked out to bat putting their dismal batting show in the first match behind them. Both Innocent Kaia and T Kaitano were circumspect early on and paid full respect to India’s opening bowlers.
Their calm approach didn’t last long as Mohammad Siraj struck for India dismissing Kaitano on the score of 20. Shardul Thakur also joined the party as he picked up the wicket of Kaia and captain Regis Chakabva in the same over. The Indian bowlers were once again all over the Zimbabwe batters as they once again faltered against them. Only Sean Williams and Ryan Burl looked comfortable in front of the Indian attack as Zimbabwe once again failed to complete 50 overs. Williams scored 42 while Burl remained not out on 39.
Shardul Thakur was the most successful Indian bowler picking up three wickets for 38 runs in seven overs.
India tried a new opening combination in the match as KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan walked out to bat. Rahul’s comeback to the Indian team wasn’t memorable as he departed early after scoring just one run. Despite losing his partner early, Dhawan carried the attack on the Zimbabwe bowlers and scored a quick-fire 33 off 21 balls. Shubhman Gill also came in and played his shots as India looked to complete the chase quickly. Sanju Samson also got his much-deserved opportunity and played fabulous shots all around the ground.
Courtesy of Samson’s incredible hitting, India reached the target in 25.4 overs. Samson emerged as the highest scorer of the innings scoring 43 off 39 balls smashing three fours and four gigantic sixes in his innings. He was even awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his match-winning knock. The two teams will once again meet on 22nd August for the third and final ODI of the series.
Here's how Twitter celebrated India's series win:
Wickets were lost, but Sanju Samson steadied the ship and sealed the chase with a six. 💪

This is all favouritism towards Shardul Thakur, Deepak Çhahar played well even in South Africa but Shardul continuously got opportunities from Rahul Dravid

India beats Zimbabwe by 5 wickets. Well bowled by Mohammed Siraj ,Shardul Thakur ,and Axar Patel. And a superb batting from Samson (potm) ,43*(39) has helped India win the series. Congratulations to KL Rahul for first series win as captain. Only KL & Ishan Kishan had an off day.
