sri Lanka vs Bangladesh

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh had a poor start to their Asia Cup 2022 campaign as they lost to a highly motivated Afghanistan side in their first matches respectively. This meant that their final match of the league stage became a do-or-die game.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first as is becoming a norm these days. Bangladesh came on to bat first with hopes of posting a good total on the board. They however did not have the star that they were looking for as they lost their first wicket at just 19. The other two batters, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38) and Sabbir Rahman (24) then steadied the innings before Hasan departed.

Bangladesh continued to create such small but significant partnerships throughout the inning and produced a good total of 183/7 in 20 overs.

Coming onto chase what was a big total, Sri Lanka started off on a positive note. Both of their openers, Pathum Nissanka (20) and Kusal Mendis (60) played some wonderful shots to bring the required rate down. After the dismissal of Nissanka however, Sri Lanka's middle order had a brain fade and lost three quick wickets to hand over Bangladesh the driver's seat.

The match however changed again as Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka came down the order to play a brilliant inning of 45 off of 33 deliveries to ignite hopes in the hearts of millions of Sri Lanka fans. The game changed its course yet again as Shanaka was dismissed by Mehedy Hasan before he could take his team across the finish line.

Chamika Karunaratne has almost done that for Sri Lanka but a brain-fade running between the wickets got him run out. The match seemed still in reach of both teams as M Theekshana and Asitha Fernando came onto the pitch.

With eight runs needed in the last over, it was the dreadful no-ball that lost Bangladesh the match.

Let's look at how Twitter reacted to Sri Lanka's win against Bangladesh.
