Asia Cup 2023

Rohit Sharma’s Team India have become the first team in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 to qualify for the final of the tournament after registering two successive wins in the super-4 round against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, respectively. Speaking of the other teams, the finalists of the previous ODI Asia Cup in 2018, Bangladesh have been knocked out of the tournament two successive defeats.

Now, the remaining two teams in contention after India’s qualification to the final are the hosts of the tournament, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Both teams have won one match each after playing two matches in the super-4 round; on the contrary, they have lost one match each as well, and that was against India only. They have two points each in the points table.

Having two points each in the points table, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will take on each other in their last super-4 match, which will be a virtual semi-final to secure their berth in the final on Sunday against India. Whereas, the men in blue will take on Bangladesh in a dead rubber on September 15 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

With said that, here we’ll have a look at the qualification scenarios for both Pakistan and Sri Lanka to secure their spot in the title clash of the tournament.

First Scenario – Winner of the match to take on India in the Asia Cup 2023 final

The first scenario is quite straightforward and simple for both Pakistan and Sri Lanka in this virtual knockout clash. The winner of this all-important super-4 match will be qualified directly to the final of the ongoing continental championship with 4 points in the table. The winner will lock horns with India in the summit clash of the 16th edition of the Asia Cup.

Second Scenario – If it goes washed out, Pakistan will be eliminated owing to Net Run Rate

The cricket fans who are manifesting the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 final will be praying for the complete absence of this scenario from the super-4 match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It is because if rain plays a spoilsport and it comes as a washout, Pakistan will be eliminated from the tournament due to their lower net run rate than Sri Lanka.

The points will be shared between both the teams but it will have no impact as Sri Lanka will make it to the final with a better net run rate than the men in green.
