'At least not a boring one-sided match' - Fans react as India seal thumping 33-run win over Ireland in 2nd T20I

India under the captaincy of stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah have taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in three-match series against Ireland.

India and Ireland locked horns in the second T20I of the three-match series, at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin on Sunday. The hosts’ skipper Paul Stirling won the flip of the coin and asked Team India to bat first at the swing-friendly turf of Malahide. Batting first, Team India managed to post a decent total of 185 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Young opener and vice-captain of India in this series, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored an important half-century, scoring 58 runs with six fours and a six. Other than him, the star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson also contributed with an individual score of 40 runs with five fours and a six.

Later, the youngsters, Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube finished the innings brilliantly for India, playing the quick individual knocks of 38 and 22 runs off just 21 and 16 balls, respectively. Berry McCarthy scalped two wickets for the Irish team, alongside one door each claimed by Mark Adair, Craig Young, and Ben White.

While chasing the target, former skipper and veteran opener, Andy Balbirnie played a crucial knock of 72 runs off just 51 balls with five fours and four sixes. Other than him, most of the hosts’ batters struggled against the Indian bowling attack. Eventually, Stirling’s men could score 152 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the entire 20 overs and lost the match by 33 runs.

Skipper Jasprit Bumrah, star pacer Prasidh Krishna and spinner Ravi Bishnoi picked two wickets each, alongside one wicket bagged by Arshdeep Singh.

Rinku Singh wins Player of the Match award in his first T20I batting appearance

The young Indian Southpaw Rinku Singh won the ‘Player of the Match award for his fantastic finish in the first innings, playing the quick match-defining knock 0f 38 runs in favour of the visitors.

With this win in the penultimate fixture of the three-match T20I series, the men in blue have taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series. Now, both teams will lock horns in the third T20I and the dead rubber at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin on Wednesday, the 23rd of August.

Returning to India’s win in the second T20I, the fans were also overjoyed following the amazing performance of Jasprit Bumrah’s men. They lauded the efforts of the youngsters like Rinku Singh and Ruturaj Gaikwad for India on the big stage.
