On Sunday, the Pakistani government granted clearance to the senior men's cricket team to participate in the 2023 World Cup in India. This decision finally put an end to months of uncertainty surrounding their participation in the prestigious tournament. The foreign ministry released a statement emphasising that Pakistan firmly believes in keeping sports separate from politics.

With this stance in mind, the decision was made to send the team to India to compete in the forthcoming World Cup, ensuring their active participation in the cricketing events. "Pakistan believes that the state of bilateral relations with India should not stand in the way of fulfilling its international sports-related obligations," the release said.

Further speaking about the security concerns, the foreign ministry said that it hopes for the fulfilment of requirements. "We expect that the full safety and security of the Pakistan cricket team will be ensured during its visit to India. This is also a constructive and responsible approach by the Pakistan Cricket Board about the issue", said the release.

Pakistan had asked for written assurances over security

Earlier, after conducting a high-level meeting in Lahore, Pakistan asked the Apex Cricket Council to give a written assurance over the security arrangements in India. It also demanded that it allow its delegation to analyse the security arrangements. However, the demand for delegation has been denied.

It's worth noting that the Indian Cricket Board is working to reschedule some matches for the Pakistan cricket team. These matches include the iconic India vs. Pakistan clash in Ahmedabad on October 15 and the Pakistan vs. England clash in Kolkata on November 12. In the coming days, the Indian Cricket Board will announce the new schedule and tickets for the game. Pakistan will start their World Cup campaign against Netherlands on October 6 in Hyderabad.
