Star Australian openers David Warner and Travis Head stitched a record-breaking opening partnership in the ongoing second ODI of the five-match series against South Africa. The duo scored 102 runs in just the first 10 overs of the powerplay. With this partnership, Australia have also become the first team to score 100 runs in any ODI, in South Africa during the phase of powerplay.

Travis Head scored 64 runs off just 36 balls with, nine 9 fours and 3 sixes with the bat before he got trapped in a LBW by the star Proteas spinner Tabraiz Shamsi. Later, Shamsi also got the stand-in Aussie skipper Mitchell Marsh on a golden duck.

At the moment, the visitors scored 149 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 19 overs, having opener David Warner and last match’s star Marnus Labuschagne on the individual scores of 59 and 22 runs, respectively. Shamsi has scalped both the wickets of Australia so far.

Mitchell Marsh’s men are currently leading the five-match series by 1-0 after a 3-wicket win in the first ODI of the series.

Australia gearing up for the ODI World Cup 2023 amidst injury concerns

Following the conclusion of this series against South Africa, Australia will travel to India for the three-match ODI series against India. It will be the last bilateral assignment for both India and Australia before heading to the ODI World Cup 2023, in India. India and Australia will start their run in the marquee international tournament with their first match against each other.

Both teams will play this match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8. The five-time champions Aussies will be looking ahead to win their sixth title in the history of the ODI World Cup so far. At the moment, Australia are struggling as their key players are out of the team due to injury issues. The list includes the regular skipper Pat Cummins, alongside the former skipper and batting star, Steve Smith, star pacer Mitchell Starc, and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell.
