Indian fast bowler Avesh Khan has been ruled out of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 due to high fever. Interestingly, Deepak Chahar has been named as the replacement for the rest of the tournament.
Notably, Avesh played the first two matches for India but returned with poor numbers.
“Avesh has fever and he has also got sinus-related problems that have escalated post-illness. It will not be possible for him to take a further part in the tournament. Deepak Chahar is already there and he will be drafted in the main squad,” a senior BCCI source told.
The Indian fast bowler has exhibited forgettable performances since the tour of West Indies. In India’s first match of the Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan, he conceded 19 runs in 2 overs. In the next game against Hong Kong, Khan was smashed for 53 runs in 4 overs.
Avesh Khan didn’t play the Super Four match against Pakistan due to fever and has been now been ruled out of the tournament. However, in Chahar, India has a very potent swing bowler, who has a knack of picking wickets in powerplay overs.
The Indian seamer announced his international comeback on the tour of Zimbabwe. In 2 matches, he managed to bag 5 wickets at 20.60.
“In any case, Deepak’s comeback was a matter of time as before injury he was ahead in the pecking order compared to Avesh. Yes, it’s an unfortunate circumstance that our fast bowler is out and we hope Avesh is fit before the Australia series,” the source said.
