On 26 October 2022, England took on Ireland in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup in Melbourne. England were coming off after winning against Afghanistan. While Ireland lost the first match against Sri Lanka. So, one team were looking to continue their momentum. But, Ireland were looking for another upset.

Irish players are popular for producing upsets in World Cups, especially against teams like England. So, fans were eager to see such a performance once again. Speaking of the match, Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to field first. For Ireland, skipper Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling came out to bat.

Ireland defeated England by five runs, thanks to the D/L method

While batting first, Ireland got bundled out for 157 runs in 19.2 overs. Andrew Balbirnie scored 62 runs off 47 balls, including five fours and two sixes. Along with him, Tucker scored 34 runs off 27 balls, including three fours and one six. For England, both Mark Wood and Liam Livingstone took three wickets each in the match. Sam Curran continued his good form as he took two wickets again in this match. In reply, skipper Jos Buttler and Alex Hales came out to bat for England. 

But, Ireland bowlers had some different plans. They bowled well as they restricted England to 105 runs for five wickets in 14.3 overs. Dawid Malan scored 35 runs off 37 balls, at a strike rate of 94.59. But, the rain came as the match got ended in favour of Ireland. At that stage, England needed to be at 110 runs. But, as the final cut-off time got passed, Ireland won the match by five runs. The D/L method helped them in producing another upset against England in World Cups. For Ireland, Josh Little took two wickets for 16 runs in three overs. Fans also were surprised to see that result in favour of the English players.
