Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are clashing against the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 45th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atat Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, May 3. LSG is coming off a low-scoring but high-intensity contest against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) where they lost the match by 18 runs on their home ground.

LSG batters continued their horrible batting performance against CSK as well, however, young right-handed batter Ayush Badoni played a lone warrior unbeaten knock of 59 runs off just 33 balls, which included 2 fours and 4 sixes. Meanwhile, he caught many fans’ attention while celebrating his half-century. When Badoni hit Deepak Chahar for a six against CSK to reach his fifty, he pulled a Virat Kohli and gave a flying kiss.

Talking about the match, LSG got off to the worst possible start, reeling in five wickets for only 44 runs in the tenth over. After MS Dhoni won the toss, LSG was ordered to bat first and was led by allrounder Krunal Pandya because KL Rahul was injured as he pulled his hamstring in the last match which was against RCB. Before Manan Vohra and Krunal followed suit in back-to-back balls, the hosts lost Kyle Mayers early on.

Brilliant batting by Ayush Badoni

Marcus Stoinis and Karan Sharma, among others, departed without greatly bothering the scoreboard. With a 59-run partnership for the sixth wicket, Badoni and Nicholas Pooran stabilised the ship. Pooran, who has had sporadic success in this IPL, was unable to score much and was dismissed for 20. On the other hand, Badoni kept scoring runs and smashed a much-need half-century for his team and obviously for himself as well.

He was unbeaten on 59 till 19.2 but rain interrupted the match and covers were brought in as it was raining heavily. LSG is desperately wanting to win this match as they can't afford one more loss on their home ground. It'd be very disappointing for the Lucknow crowd if LSG couldn't defend the short target.
