The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) clashed against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 42nd match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 30. The contest witnessed a run-fest from both sides, however, MI emerged victorious at the end as they chased a monumental total of 2012 runs and won the match by 6 wickets.

Meanwhile, during the 2nd innings, when MI was chasing the target, skipper Rohit Sharma got out in an unfortunate way and couldn’t make his 36th birthday even more special for him. He was dismissed on the score of just 3 runs as RR speedster Sandeep Sharma bowled him in the 2nd over.

However, the dismissal sparked controversy as many fans believed that the bails didn’t dislodge when the ball hit the stumps, but Sanju Samson, who was keeping behind the wickets, touched the bails with his gloves due to which they lightened up and Rohit was given out. But now, a new image is getting viral on social media in which Rohit’s dismissal is shown from the side angle and it is clearly visible that Samson’s hands were way behind the stumps.

Brilliant finish by Tim David

Meanwhile, talking about the match, RR opted to bat first after winning the toss, and with the help of young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's fiery 124 runs knock, which came off just 63 balls, helped RR to achieve a massive total of 212 runs in 20 overs. Jaiswal smashed 16 fours and 8 sixes during his breathtaking knock. Piyush Chawla was the only bowler who bowled well for MI as he conceded only 34 runs in his 4 overs quota and picked up 2 wickets.

Chasing the target, MI didn't start well as they lost Rohit in the 2nd over and Ishan Kishan was also sent back to the pavilion after his slow 28-run knock. But Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav switched gears and scored some quick runs, both were looking well and at one stage it looked like they would chase the target easily but both departed, however, in the end, Tim David took the responsibility on his shoulders and smashed 3 consecutive sixes in the final over of the match. He took the team to their 4th win of the season with 3 balls to spare.
