In quite a bit of shocking news for cricket fans, young Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq has missed making it to the Afghanistan squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The selectors announced the squad for the continental championship on Sunday. Notably, Naveen was in the controversial headlines of social media for some infamous incidents earlier this year.
He was one of the centres of attraction in the Indian Premier League after his verbal spat with the former Indian skipper batting superstar, Virat Kohli. The incident took place after the conclusion of a league match between Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The incident heated up further and it led to a verbal altercation between the former RCB skipper Virat Kohli and LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir. Coming back to Naveen-ul-Haq, he was expected to be a part of the Afghanistan squad for the 16th edition of the continental championship. The fans were quite excited to see Naveen and Virat Kohli playing against each other in an expected encounter between Afghanistan and India.
Here’s a look at the Afghanistan squad for Asia Cup 2023:
Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan, Rahmat Shah, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Ikram Alikhil, Rashid Khan, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Abdul Rahman, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Suliman Safi, and Fazalhaq Farooqi
The Afghan side under the captaincy of skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi will start their campaign in the tournament with the first match against Bangladesh at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, the 3rd of September.
They were recently in action against Pakistan in the just-concluded three-match ODI series, in Sri Lanka. The Men in Green completely outmuscled Afghanistan and whitewashed them after defeating them in all three matches and won the series by a straight margin of 3-0.
Speaking of Asia Cup 2023, the tournament will be played with six participating in two groups, including India, Pakistan, and Nepal in Group 1 and Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh in Group 2.

❗ Fareed Ahmad has been dropped from Afghanistan's 🇦🇫 AC squad as he'd abused Babar Azam & Imam during the series, Karim Janat has been appointed as his replacement

Naveen ul haq is lucky that he isn't in the squad otherwise Kohli would have repeated the 2016 west indies note book celebration.
