On 25 November 2022, team India began their three-match ODI series in New Zealand. After the 20-20 World Cup, team India managed to win the three-match T20I series by 1-0 under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. Now, the Men in Blue were looking for a winning start in the ODI series under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan.

Ahead of the 2023 50-over World Cup, this series is an opportunity for some players like Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer. Speaking of the match, the Kiwis won the toss and choose to bowl first. However, both Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson got a chance in the final playing XI in the first game of the series.

Rishabh Pant scored only 15 runs off 23 balls in the first ODI

For India, Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan came out to bat. Shubman scored 50 runs off 65 balls, including one four and three sixes. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan scored 72 runs off 77 balls, including 13 fours. Then, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant came up to bat in the middle order. Fans were hoping to see Rishabh Pant in some form in this 50-over format. But, he failed again as Pant scored only 15 runs off 23 balls. He managed to hit only two boundaries.

In the recently concluded T20I series, Rishabh Pant scored only 17 runs in two matches. In recent times, Rishabh Pant has failed to perform with the bat. He played only two games in the World Cup.
