Team India had a forgettable 2022 as they failed to win major titles despite being one of the favorites. However, fans were not happy with the overall team selection also. Hence, they slammed the Chetan Sharma-led entire Selection Committee. However, on 18 November 2022, the Indian Cricket Board sacked the entire selection committee.
There were several reasons behind such a bold decision from the Board. The sacking of Virat Kohli from captaincy, an unstable squad, and seven various captains in one year were the major ones. Several players got injured due to a lack of workload management. So, fans were hoping for a better committee to ensure a good squad for future assignments.
Reports of re-appointing Chetan Sharma were there in recent days
However, before the first series at home against Sri Lanka in 2023, the Board failed to make a new selection committee. So, Chetan Sharma and his selection committee only chose the squads for the team. Then, a senior Board source said: “Chetan is their favorite, and Harvinder (Singh) also appeared for the interview. So North and Central Zone may be taken care of. Junior chairman of selectors S Sharath was also asked by the Board brass to apply. He is best equipped about the supply chain of talent from pathways cricket."
Now, on 7 January 2023, the Indian Cricket Board shared an update regarding the new selection committee. In an official statement, they wrote: “The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ms. Sulakshana Naik, Mr. Ashok Malhotra, and Mr. Jatin Paranjape undertook an extensive process for selecting members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee. The Board received around 600 applications following its advertisement for the five posts issued on its official website on 18th November 2022. Upon due deliberation and careful consideration, the CAC shortlisted 11 individuals for personal interviews.”
“Based on the interviews, the Committee has recommended the following candidates for the Senior Men’s National Selection Committee. 1) Chetan Sharma, 2) Shiv Sundar Das, 3) Subroto Banerjee, 4) Salil Ankola, 5) Sridharan Sharath. The committee further recommended Mr. Chetan Sharma for the role of Chairman of the senior men’s selection committee,” the statement ended. So, fans were quite shocked and surprised to see Chetan Sharma back again as the Chairman of the senior men’s selection committee.

I think bcci is left with only two options: Kl Rahul & Chetan Sharma. They can't go beyond them.
