Team India are currently busy playing the home three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. However, the India Cricket Board are currently looking to appoint new selectors for the Men in Blue. Before this series, the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee chose the squad. On 18 November 2022, the Board took a bold decision.

They sacked Chetan Sharma and his entire Selection Committee. However, there were several reasons why this Selection Committee got the backlash from the Board. According to PTI reports, the removal of Virat Kohli as the captain was one of the main reasons that influenced that bold decision.

Fans started to slam the Indian Cricket Board after such reports regarding Chetan Sharma got circulated 

In 2022, the Men in Blue were favorites in major tournaments. But, they failed to win both the Asia Cup and the 20-20 World Cup under Chetan Sharma’s tenure. India even lost the Test series in South Africa and failed to win the rescheduled Test at Edgebaston against England. So, fans were not happy with the team's performance during the tenure of Chetan Sharma and his entire selection committee. They did not consider domestic performers across all formats. Young players like Prithvi Shaw and Ravi Bishnoi performed well but failed to get a call in the squads. In 2022, senior players like Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja got injured. They hurried their comeback to the team. 

As a result, both these players missed the World Cup and the Asia Cup. Even, they considered a comeback for KL Rahul in the team after a long gap due to injuries. But, he failed to do any justice as Rahul has failed to score in a consistent manner. Hence, fans were happy when the Board decided to sack the entire committee including Chetan Sharma. But, now reports are coming that Chetan Sharma is going to be re-appointed as the Chief Selector. A senior Board source said: “Chetan is favorite and Harvinder (Singh) also appeared for the interview. So North and Central Zone may be taken care of. Junior chairman of selectors S Sharath was also asked by the Board brass to apply. He is best equipped about the supply chain of talent from pathways cricket."
