Match Fixing Scandals

Switzerland-based sports integrity services agency Sportradar has left the entire cricketing world in shock after their recent reports; the agency found that 13 cricket matches were allegedly corrupted or may be fixed. This game ranks sixth in the list of most corrupt in the World at the moment.

Apart from that, football has almost 775 matches the result of which may have been allegedly compromised including 220 basketball games followed by 75 fixtures in lawn tennis. But in an interesting fact, the report also seems to state that there are not any matches played particularly in India.

Speaking as a whole, sports radar has spotted almost an unbelievable count of 1212 matches from 12 different sports across 92 sporting nations.

"Although a number of sports continue to display relatively low numbers of suspicious matches, 13 suspicious cricket matches is still the highest annual figure recorded by Sportradar Integrity Services, and handball and futsal also recorded their highest-ever number of suspicious matches," reads the report by sportradar.

Earlier, Indian T20 League also went through a phase of fixing in 2013

Talking about the recent major cricketing actions; the Indian T20 League is just a few days away from now. The 16th edition of the tournament will commence on Friday, the 31st of March 2023 with the first match between the defending champions Gujarat and four-time champions Chennai.

Notably, the Indian T20 League had also been under the scanner of fixing scandals in the past; it all happened in during the season of 2013. The three-star cricketers of the Rajasthan franchise Ajeet Chandila, Ankit Chavan, and the renowned Indian pacer S Sreesanth were arrested by the police in a complaint of spot-fixing and being in touch with a bookie.

Later on, the Chennai team’s principal Gurunath Mayappan was also booked in the case of betting alongside Rajasthan’s co-owner Raj Kundra. It eventually resulted in the ban that was imposed on Rajasthan and Chennai.
