After crashing out of the Asia Cup 2022 with an embarrassing defeat against Sri Lanka and arch-rivals Pakistan, the Indian selectors got back to work and came up with a strong squad for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup in Australia.

Batters

Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli are the first names on the team sheet. Batting will be further boosted by Suryakumar Yadav who is the highest-ranked batter from India in T20Is. Deepak Hooda who did not have a good Asia Cup has also been retained on the basis of his past performances. Rishabh Pant who was expected to be dropped has been shown a great deal of confidence and has been selected for the 20-20 World Cup despite his poor performance at the Asia Cup 2022. Dinesh Karthik, who was dropped from the team after just one game in the Asia Cup would be the first-choice keeper as his absence was felt the most in the following games.

All-rounders

Hardik Pandya leads the line among all-rounders. Ravi Ashwin who was included in the T20I team after eight months has again been included in the side for the World Cup. Axar Patel was included in the team as a like-for-like replacement for injured Ravindra Jadeja and he has been again shown faith for the World Cup. Harshal Patel would be another bowling all-rounder in the India squad.

Bowlers

Jasprit Bumrah who was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 and was missed massively makes a comeback to the squad. Bhuvneshwar Kumar ended the Asia Cup campaign as the highest wicket-taker (11) and was a certainty for the 15-member squad. Yuzvendra Chahal did not show his trickery at the Asia Cup but a great record meant that selectors could not take him out of the squad. Arshdeep Singh's performance were overshadowed by his one dropped catch but selectors did not make the mistake of being reactionary and appreciated his performance with a chance at the World Cup.

Avesh Khan could not make it to the team as selectors were not impressed with his performance. Mohammad Shami who was reported to be included in the team has been kept as a standby player along with Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, and Deepak Chahar.
