Team India are currently busy playing the limited-over series in New Zealand after the 20-20 World Cup. However, Hardik Pandya led the team to a 1-0 victory in the three-match T20I series. But, the Men in blue had a bad start to the three-match ODI series as India are currently trailing by 1-0 after two matches. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson have been a part of the squad for the whole tour.

After the World Cup, fans were hoping to see Sanju Samson in action for team India. But, they ignored him once again as he did not manage a single match in the T20I series. In the ODI series, Samson got game time in the first match while he got dropped in the next match. Now, regarding the debate of Samson vs Pant, the former Kiwi player, Simon Doull shared his views.

“The Rishabh Pant vs Sanju Samson debate is an interesting one for me.” - Simon Doull

While speaking on Cricbuzz with Harsha Bhogle, Simon Doull said that Sanju Samson should get a long rope in the Indian Cricket team. He said: “Rishabh Pant’s record is a decent sample size. He has played just under 30 games and only averages 35, the strike rate is good. But Sanju in 11 games is averaging 60-something. And I don’t think he is any less of a wicketkeeper. I just think he deserves an opportunity as well.”

“The Rishabh Pant vs Sanju Samson debate is an interesting one for me. There is so much talk about Rishabh Pant, and how he is the future. But in white-ball formats, he hasn’t quite done it. Unbelievable Test player, and he is a shoo-in in Tests as the wicketkeeper-batter, no issue with that? But is he the best white-ball keeper batter? I am not convinced,” he added.

Speaking of this ongoing tour, Rishabh Pant played two T20Is and one ODI match so far. In those three innings, he managed only 32 runs. On the other hand, Sanju Samson did not get a single T20I. In the first ODI, he scored 36 runs off 38 balls, including four boundaries. Pant also had a disappointing 20-20 World Cup for India. In two matches, he managed only nine runs.
