The Indore-born spin-allrounder Jalaj Saxena has faced an omission from the squad of South Zone for the Duleep Trophy 2023. Notably, Jalaj ended up the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season as the highest wicket-taker scalping 50 wickets in 13 innings of the 7 matches, he played for Kerala. In these matches, he claimed 6 five-wicket hauls including two 10-wicket hauls in a match.

His best figures in Ranji Trophy were 8/36 in a match and 11/102 in a match. But even after these stellar performances in domestic cricket, the veteran all-rounder has been overlooked by the selectors while picking up the squad of South Zone for the Duleep Trophy 2023.

Subsequently, Saxena himself took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to express his displeasure over his omission.

"Highest wicket-taker in Ranji trophy in India (Elite Group) didn't get picked in Duleep trophy. Can you please check whether it has ever happened in Indian Domestic history? Just wanted to know. Not blaming anyone," wrote the 36-year-old on his Twitter handle while responding to a tweet from a Twitter handle named Indian Domestic Cricket Forum – IDCF.

Here's a look at the tweet posted by Jalaj Saxena after his omission from the Duleep Trophy squad:

Earlier, IDCF added a tweet in their long thread on Jalaj Saxena and wrote, “Interestingly South Zone Selectors didn't pick Jalaj Saxena for the 2023 Duleep Trophy.”

Apart from his bowling prowess, Jalaj Saxena has also proved his worth in domestic cricket with stellar batting performances. He has played 133 First-Class matches and scored 6567 runs with 14 centuries and 32 half-centuries having a decent average of 34.74. He also has 410 wickets to his name with the ball in First-Class cricket owning 28 five-wicket hauls on his credit.

Speaking of Duleep Trophy 2023, the tournament will begin on the 28th of June and the final of the tournament will be played on the 12th of July. All the FC matches of the tournament will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
