The arch-rivals and two Asian cricketing giants, India and Pakistan locked horns in the high-octane clash of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Both teams faced each other for the eighth time in the ODI World Cup history since their first meetup 31 years back in the year 1992. One more time, it was India who emerged victorious for the eighth successive time against the men in green in the ODI World Cup, after defeating them by 7 wickets in the just concluded clash of the ODI World Cup 2023.
India defeated Babar Azam’s men by 7 wickets to register their third consecutive win in the ongoing edition of the ODI World Cup. The hosts’ skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat first. While batting first, Pakistan had a good start from the top-order batters, including the 41-run opening stand followed by the 83-run partnership between skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan for the third wicket.
Babar Azam scored the only half-century of Pakistan’s innings, scoring 50 runs with 7 fours, alongside Rizwan’s 49-run knock, hitting 7 fours. Other than these two, it was only the opener Imam-ul-Haq who scored an individual score of 30+ runs, scoring 36 runs with 6 fours.
But just after the dismissal of skipper Babar Azam, the 1992 World Cup champions faced a horrific collapse and they lost their remaining 8 wickets just within the score of 36 runs. From 155 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, Pakistan got bundled out on the score of 191 runs in 42.5 overs.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma leads the onslaught from front
Except for Shardul Thakur, all Indian bowlers scalped 2 wickets each for their side in the first innings to bundle out Pakistan only on the score of 191 runs.
While chasing the target, India lost their first wicket in Shubman Gill early on the team’s score of 23 runs. But then came an unbelievable knock from skipper Rohit Sharma; he smashed 86 runs off just 63 balls, hitting 6 fours and 6 sixes, with a strike rate of 136.50. Rohit also stitched two crucial partnerships, including a 56-run stand for the second wicket with former skipper Virat Kohli followed by the 77-run partnership for the third wicket with Shreyas Iyer. Other than Rohit, Iyer also scored a half-century, scoring 53 runs with 3 fours and 2 sixes with the willow.
Eventually, India won the match by a big margin of 7 wickets, scoring 192 runs, for the loss of 3 wickets in 30.3 overs, to stay unassailable both in the rivalry against Pakistan and in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.

Pakistan is the most consistent national team in the game of World Cricket. They have become so consistent that the last 7 times they faced India in World Cup, they lost.
