Australia handed over an embarrassing defeat to Pakistan in the first Test of the three-match series by a mammoth margin of 360 runs. Both teams played this match at the Perth Stadium in Perth from December 14 to December 17. Australian skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first.
Batting first, the Aussies posted a big total of 487 runs in the first innings courtesy of the brilliant century scored by the veteran opener David Warner; he scored 164 runs, hitting 16 fours and 4 sixes. Other than him, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh also scored 90 runs to help Australia post a good total in the first innings. Debutant Aamer Jamal scalped 6 wickets for Pakistan in the first innings, alongside 2 wickets picked by Khurram Shahzad. Apart from these two, Shaheen Afridi and Faheem Ashraf also bagged one scalp each.
While responding to Australia’s first innings, Pakistan got bundled out at the score of 271 runs; only the openers Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah could play the knocks of 62 and 42 runs as all other batters failed to touch the individual mark of 30+ runs.
The veteran spinner Nathan Lyon picked 3 wickets for the hosts, getting the support of 2 wickets each bagged by Mitchell Starc and skipper Pat Cummins. Other than these three, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh, and Travis Head also picked one wicket each to help the hosts get a big lead of 216 runs at the end of the first innings.
Aussie bowlers outmuscled the Pakistan batting attack in the second innings
Later in the second innings, Australia declared their innings at the score of 233 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, having two brilliant knocks from opener Usman Khawaja and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh. Khawaja and Marsh scored 90 and 63 runs, respectively for Australia to set a huge target of 450 runs for Pakistan to win the match.
While chasing the target of 450 runs, Shan Masood’s men completely surrendered against the Aussie bowling attack and got bundled just at the score of 89 runs in 30.2 overs. Except for the 24 runs scored by Saud Shakeel, none of the Pakistan batters could touch the individual mark of 20+ runs. Eventually, Australia won the match by a huge margin of 360 runs to gain a lead of 1-0 in the series

Pakistanis were never particularly athletic in the field (this one is no exception). They just had the sheer pace to make up for it. On the evidence of Perth, their loss of pace is catastrophic. #AUSvsPAK
