The star Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has finally broken his silence over the ‘resting feet at World Cup trophy’ controversy; the controversy erupted when a picture of Marsh having his legs on the trophy of ODI World Cup 2023 started making rounds on social media. It was captured during the celebrations Australian team after they defeated India in the final of the tournament to win their sixth ODI World Cup title.

Since then, Marsh fell on the receiving end of harsh and brutal criticism from some of the cricket fans while a few others found nothing wrong in the same. So, the social media was divided into two sections having different opinions.

Now, Mitchell Marsh himself came up with a statement and cleared his stance over this controversy if he disrespected the trophy or not.

“There was no disrespect meant in that photo at all. I haven't given it too much thought, I haven't seen a lot on social media even though everyone tells me it's gone off. There is nothing in that,” said Marsh to SEN.

Notably, the 32-year-old star all-rounder was one of the key performers in Australia’s title-winning campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023. He scored 441 runs with the bat in the tournament. He also came to open the innings for Australia when the regular opener Travis Head was out of action due to an injury.

Just after his comeback, Travis Head also shone with the bat and continued his sensational form to hit a match-defining century against India in the final of the tournament. Head became the third Australian batter in history to score a century in an ODI World Cup final, after the former Aussie batting legends, Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting.

Currently, India and Australia are in action against each other in the ongoing five-match T20I series. The hosts are leading the series by 2-1, with two successive wins in first two matches and a defeat in the third T20I.
