In a recent piece of news, the cricket’s governing body has confirmed the qualification scenario for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. A spokesperson on behalf of cricket’s governing body confirmed the decision of the apex body which was taken two years back in the year 2021.
So, it is now official that the top seven out of the 10 participating teams in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 will qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025, alongside the hosts of the tournament, Pakistan as the eighth team of the marquee international tournament.
World Champions England on the brink of disqualification from Champions Trophy 2025
Meanwhile, there is also a horrible piece of news for the defending World Cup champions, England who are currently enduring a very poor run of form in the ongoing edition of the prestigious cricket quadrennial. They are currently placed in the very last spot of the points table of the tournament with only one win in 5 matches, they played so far.
England have faced four humiliating defeats against New Zealand, Afghanistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, respectively. England’s qualification hopes for the Champions Trophy 2025 are now in jeopardy and it has also attracted a lot of reactions from cricket fans across the social media platforms.
Currently, they are locking horns in the 29th match of the tournament against the hosts, India at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. They are looking in big trouble while chasing the target of 229 runs after losing 8 wickets at the score of just 102 runs in 31.1 overs.
Earlier on Saturday after a defeat against the Netherlands, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan also highlighted the cruciality of finishing as one of the top seven or eight teams to make a clear qualification for the Champions Trophy.
“I mean, not the semi-final hope. It is not a semi-final possibility. At least, do a little better. Suppose, you have to be in the [top] ranking 8 if you want to play in the Champions Trophy. So, there are still three matches left considering that in mind,” said Shakib Al Hasan during the post-match press conference.
Here’s how fans reacted to England’s potential disqualification from the Champions Trophy 2025:

If England do not end up in the top seven teams, they will miss the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. The 2025 edition could be played without England 👀 #CWC23 #INDvsENG

England came here to defend their World Cup title. But, The way they are performing could lead to them not qualifying for the Champions Trophy.

England were looking forward to some dead-rubber matches. Now, ICC has given them enough reasons (stress!?) to lose few more. England in bottom two. Missing out on Champions Trophy. Who says no. #CWC23 #INDvENGhttps://t.co/KuLAWRka7y
