South Africa produced another masterclass performance in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 after defeating New Zealand by a mammoth margin of 190 runs in the 32nd match of the tournament. South Africa and New Zealand played this match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Wednesday, November 2.

The Kiwi skipper Tom Latham won the toss and asked the Proteas to bat first; batting first, the veteran opener Quinton de Kock shone once again for his side, smashing his fourth century in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. De Kock scored 114 runs, hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes.

Other than de Kock, the star number three batter Rassie van der Dussen played an amazing knock of 133 runs off just 118 balls, with 9 fours and 5 sixes. Later at the end of the innings, the veteran Southpaw David Miller smashed a swashbuckling knock of 53 runs off just 30 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes.

On the back of these knocks, South Africa posted a mammoth total of 357 runs for the loss of just 4 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. The veteran pacer Tim Southee scalped two wickets for New Zealand, alongside one wicket each picked by Trent Boult and James Neesham in the first innings.

South African bowlers outmuscle Kiwi batting lineup

While chasing the target, the New Zealand batting couldn’t sustain strongly against the mighty bowling attack of the Proteas. Glenn Phillips was the only batter who managed to play a knock of 60 runs but it couldn’t work as none of the batters scored individual mark of 30+ runs except a 33-run knock played by Will Young. Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen scalped 4 and 3 wickets, respectively alongside one and two wickets, picked by  Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada.

South Africa bundled out New Zealand on the score of 167 runs in 35.3 overs to win the match by a huge margin of 190 runs to move to the top spot of the points table in the tournament, surpassing India on the grounds of massive net run-rate.

South Africa’s win has also kept the semi-final hopes alive for Pakistan who are currently both on the edge of top-4 and on the edge of getting knocked out.
