Defending champions England once again faced a defeat in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 and now they have been officially knocked out of the tournament. The Three Lions took on Australia in the 36th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, November 4.

England skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and asked the Aussies to bat first; batting first, Australia posted a total of 286 runs, losing all the wickets in 49.3 overs. Star batter Marnus Labuschagne played a crucial knock of 71 runs followed by 44 and 47-run knocks played by former skipper Steve Smith and all-rounder Cameron Green.

Chris Woakes scalped 4 wickets for England, alongside 2 wickets each picked by Mark Wood and Adil Rashid. David Willey and Liam Livingstone also claimed one wicket.

England fail to chase, get knocked out of the tournament

While chasing the target, England got some important knocks from opener Dawid Malan and star all-rounder Ben Stokes. Malan and Stokes played the knocks of 50 and 64 runs, respectively; apart from these two, Moeen Ali also scored 42 runs with 6 fours. But eventually, England got bundled out on the score of 253 runs and lost the match by 33 runs.

Adam Zampa claimed three wickets for Australia, alongside two wickets each by Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins, respectively; Marcus Stoinis also bagged one scalp to help Australia register their fifth consecutive win in the tournament.

Now, England have been knocked out of the ODI World Cup 2023 after facing 6 defeats in the 7 matches, they played so far in the tournament. Meanwhile, the five-time champions, Australia have moved to keep their third spot safe with 5 wins in 7 matches, having 10 points to their name in the points table.

Apart from all this, South Africa have become the second team after India to qualify into the semi-finals of the tournament.
