The star Pakistan all-rounder Aamer Jamal impressed everyone with an outstanding 82-run innings off 97 balls on the first day of the third and final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Wednesday. Batting at No. 9, Jamal hit nine fours and four sixes, playing a crucial role in a last-wicket partnership of 86 with Mir Hamza (7* off 43 balls). This also the highest last wicket partnership for Pakistan in the longest format of the game.

With a late fightback, Pakistan bounced back from 96/5 to reach a total of 313 on the scoreboard after winning the toss and opting to bat first. The team faced early setbacks as they lost their openers without scoring, and despite starts from skipper Shan Masood (35) and Babar Azam (26), they couldn't convert them into substantial scores. The innings found stability with a notable contribution from keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 88 runs.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Jamal emerged as Pakistan's standout batting performer on Day 1. He showcased an array of impressive strokes throughout his innings, with a particularly noteworthy moment when the 27-year-old executed an audacious reverse sweep against the experienced Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon which went for maximum.

Let us look at how Twitter has reacted to this innings from him;

In the New Year’s Test, which is also the final Test for the veteran Australian batter David Warner. Pakistan skipper Shan Masood won the toss and chose to bat first. However, Pakistan's aspirations of clinching their first Test victory in Australia in 28 years were swiftly dashed as the Men in Green fell to 47/4. This happened during the opening session of play on Wednesday at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the Pink Test.

Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc secured wickets with their second deliveries in the match, while Pat Cummins made quick work of dismissing Saud Shakeel and Babar Azam, sending them back to the pavilion. As the team faced a precarious situation on a challenging pitch, the expectation for a veteran batsman like Mohammad Rizwan would typically be to defend his wicket until lunch. However, Rizwan defied the pressure by hitting a few boundaries and challenging the bowlers.

 Cummins became the victim of a caught-behind appeal involving Salman Agha, leading the Australian captain to opt for a second review. Despite the conviction, the UltraEdge revealed a noticeable gap, causing Australia to lose yet another review. Salman started cautiously, but Rizwan showcased a variety of shots, driving and cutting Nathan Lyon for boundaries. Rizwan achieved his eleventh Test fifty with a pull shot against the opening delivery from Josh Hazlewood after a short drinks break. However, his innings concluded with a brilliant short ball trap from skipper Cummins when he was on 88 runs.
