Following a crushing defeat of 8 wickets against a lower-ranked team like Afghanistan, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is currently on the receiving end of harsh and hard-and-fast-lined criticism from former Pakistan cricketers and experts. A few of the former Pakistan skippers have come up with some hard words while criticizing Babar Azam’s captaincy in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.
Meanwhile, the veteran Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad has launched a fresh attack over Babar Azam and also accused the latter of promoting the favouritism culture within the Pakistan Cricket Team. Apart from this, Shehzad lashed out at Babar for ignoring a few players and not welcoming them into the dressing room.
"They're trying to save certain players and expose." - Ahmed Shehzad
“I've talked to some players. Few players are not welcome in the dressing room. They aren't given the same level of treatment and confidence as some others. They try to keep certain players in the team and drop the others. Tayyab Tahir was brought in, but he wasn't welcome and was excluded. Saud Shakeel was brought in based on his Test performances,” said Shehzad during a conversation with ARY News.
“Usama Mir, we had been saying that give him chances before the World Cup to give him confidence... see, Usama is a wrist-spinner. He's more effective when the ball is old. And he is brought in the 11th over. They're trying to save certain players and expose these players instead. We have been saying for quite some time that bringing in Abrar Ahmad, a mystery spinner is needed. These are our colleagues, these are our friends, and these are not welcome,” he added later.
Notably, the men in green are currently on the verge of getting knocked out from the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 after facing three consecutive defeats in the first 5 matches, they played so far in the tournament. Currently, they are locking horns with South Africa in the all-important clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
