India continues their unbeaten winning streak in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 with a 4-wicket win against New Zealand. Both teams locked horns in the 21st match of the tournament at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and the asked the Blackcaps to bat first.

Batting first, New Zealand posted a decent total of 273 runs losing all the wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell scored a crucial century, hitting 130 runs, with 9 fours and 5 sixes with the willow. Other than him, star number three batter Rachin Ravindra also scored 75 runs, hitting 6 fours and a six.

On the back of these knocks, New Zealand managed to put a good total on the board in the first innings. For India, the veteran pacer Mohammed Shami made a stunning comeback with the ball as he claimed a five-wicket haul, which was also the first five-wicket haul by an Indian bowler in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.

Other than Shami, Kuldeep Yadav also picked two wickets, alongside one wicket each bagged by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

Virat Kohli leads India's run-chase with a match-defining knock

While chasing the target, India faced a bit of trouble in the middle order after a good opening start from skipper Rohit Sharma and young batter Shubman Gill. The duo stitched 71 runs for the first wicket in 11.1 overs. Rohit fell prey to Lockie Ferguson at the individual score of 46 runs with 4 fours and 4 sixes.

Apart from this, the former skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli shone once again with the bat in India’s run-chase, he played an amazing and match-defining knock of 95 runs with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Later in the end, Jadeja guided India to a win by 4 wickets with an unbeaten knock of 39 runs; he also completed his job from where he left in the ODI World Cup 2019 semi-final against the same opponent, New Zealand.

Eventually, India finished the game with 274 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 48 overs. Mohammed Shami won the ‘Player of the Match award for his excellent five-wicket haul in his comeback match.
