The veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami stunned everyone with his masterclass performance in his first appearance for India in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Shami scalped an amazing five-wicket haul in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 match against New Zealand. He also became the first Indian bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in the current edition of the ODI World Cup.
Shami picked 5 wickets at the cost of 54 runs in his quota of 10 overs. Shami also brought back India into the game by scalping two consecutive wickets in the 48th over; it was the time when the New Zealand batters were dominating India in the first innings of the match.
Notably, Shami was picked in the playing XI of India to replace Shardul Thakur as they made two changes, including the replacement of Hardik Pandya with Suryakumar Yadav and Shardul with Shami.
Indian bowlers make comeback after dominating batting display by New Zealand
Speaking of the action of the match, the hosts skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked the Blackcaps to bat first. Shami and Siraj provided early success for India by scalping New Zealand’s two wickets just at the score of 19 runs in 8.1 overs, picking one wicket each. But then came an amazing 159-run partnership for the third wicket between Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell before the former fell prey to Shami at the individual score of 75 runs with 6 fours and a six.
Other than him, Daryl Mitchell also scored a crucial century for the Kiwis; he scored 130 runs off 127 balls with 9 fours and five sixes with the willow. On the back of these knocks, Tom Latham’s men posted a decent total of 273 runs after losing all wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
Other than Shami’s five-wicket haul, Kuldeep Yadav also claimed two wickets, alongside one wicket each bagged by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

It was an amazing game by Shami. But the sad thing is, we won't be able to play him in all the matches! The only two people we can replace Shami with are Siraj and Bumrah.

We all know Bumrah is irreplaceable and Siraj is having a great time with the ball.#INDvsNZ #shami
