Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batter for Team India, chose the wrong shot in their ODI World Cup 2023 encounter against Australia in Chennai, as recently noted by Robin Uthappa.
When Indian batters Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan returned without contributing to the score, Iyer came out to bat. He was out for a duck and was unable to save his squad from a bad situation. On the third ball he encountered, the right-handed batter was killed while playing an aggressive drive.
Iyer should try to relieve pressure in these circumstances, according to Uthappa, if he wants to thrive within the 50-over format. Robin Uthappa spoke about this on his YouTube channel.
He said, "Shreyas Iyer can improve on his shot selection, especially when the team is under pressure. I didn't expect him to play such a shot when India were 2/2. He went for a pressure release shot, but you need to absorb pressure at times. It would have been understandable if he did that in a T20 match."
In addition, Uthappa asked the team's management to keep Virat Kohli at No. 3 rather than moving Shreyas Iyer up the lineup for the forthcoming game against Afghanistan on Wednesday, October 11.
“I feel this will be a high-scoring game”: Robin Uthappa
During their opening game of the major world tournament, Indian bowlers turned up an outstanding performance, dismissing Australia for 199. This was highlighted by Robin Uthappa. But given the circumstances, he predicted that their game versus Afghanistan would end up being a high-scoring contest.
He added, "India's bowling has been clinical so far. They bowled exceptionally well. The spinners have been brilliant, and the fielding has also been quite good. Compared to the last game, I feel a lot more runs will be scored here on this pitch. It is a small ground with a quick outfield. So, I feel this will be a high-scoring game, and the batters are going to have a lot of fun."
