Second blow for India ahead of Test series against South Africa

Earlier the veteran pacer Mohammed Shami was ruled out from India’s squad for the Test series against South Africa as he failed to get his fitness back on time. His ankle was found hurt after the end of the ODI World Cup 2023, in which was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 24 wickets to his name in just 7 innings of the 7 matches, he played for India.

“Mohd. Shami, whose participation in the Test series was subject to fitness has not been cleared by the Indian Cricket Board Medical Team and the fast bowler is ruled out of the two Tests,” read the statement from the Indian Cricket Board in a media release announcing the exclusion of Shami from the Test squad due to the fitness concerns.

Apart from that, another Indian pacer Deepak Chahar also withdrew himself from the ongoing ODI series against the hosts. As per the board’s statement, Chahar had withdrawn his name due to a medical emergency in his family.
