Pakistan faced the fourth successive defeat in their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign; they lost to South Africa by a very close margin of just 1 wicket. Now, they are on the brink of exit from the tournament after having only two wins in the 6 matches so far. Meanwhile, a lot of heated debates and questions are making rounds in the Pakistan cricketing corridors.

The concussion of star all-rounder Shadab Khan and him being replaced by the young spinner Usama Mir as a concussion substitute has raised a lot of eyebrows among the former Pakistan cricketers and cricket experts.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan pacer Umar Gul also targeted Shadab Khan and accused him of making an excuse and faking the injury to get rid of a pressure situation when the team required him most.

"I don't think Shadab had a serious injury. When one or two wickets were left, he came out on camera to cheer and clap for the team. It just means that you are playing with the emotions of 24 crore Pakistani people. It is not funny," said Umar Gul to ARY Digital

"He went off and after a while came back. His scans were apparently also clear. I think he took a route to escape from the pressure and action on the field, I know of players who have batted with broken hands and arms because it was necessary for the team," he added later.

"His presence in the dugout does make wonder." - Sohail Tanvir on statement by Umar Gul for Shadab Khan

Alongside Umar Gul, former star left-arm Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanveer also echoed the former’s notion on Shadab’s injury. But Tanvir came up quite cautiously with the words while talking about the same.

“We don't know how serious this concussion injury was but the way Shadab first returned to the field then went back on whoever's advice... His presence in the dugout does make one wonder should he not have carried on playing,” said Sohail Tanveer
