India under the captaincy of regular skipper Rohit Sharma are set to be in action in the upcoming five-match Test series against England. Meanwhile, the hosts India will rely on the veteran spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Meanwhile, the former star Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh came up with a big statement while speaking about the veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Notably, Ashwin has been one of the standout performers for India for the last couple of years with the ball and sometimes he has also proven his worth with the bat as well. But Yuvraj Singh has something very different to say about the 37-year-old.

The 2011 ODI World Cup champion all-rounder feels that Ashwin is not a good fit in the Indian squad when it comes to their template in limited-overs cricket.

“Ashwin is a great bowler but I don't think he deserves a place in ODIs and T20s. He is very good with the ball, but what does he bring with the bat? Or as a fielder? In the Test team, yes, he should be there. But in white-ball cricket, I don't think he deserves a place,” said Yuvraj to the Times of India.

"Nobody had any idea, at least from the junior segment of the team." - Ravichandran Ashwin about Yuvraj Singh's cancer in ODI World Cup 2011

Interestingly, Yuvraj Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin played together in the same squad of India that won the ODI World Cup 2011.

Just a few days back, Ashwin also spoke about Yuvraj Singh and the former revealed his shock after Yuvi’s cancer came to his knowledge.

“Yuvi used to cough, and he used to cough vehemently. I used to think that it was the pressure of the game and he was coughing it off and he used to cough in the middle. Nobody had any idea, at least from the junior segment of the team that he was suffering from a serious illness,” said Ashwin in a video on his YouTube channel.

“When it broke out (the news of Yuvraj having cancer), I was shocked because I did not expect somebody who had just become Player of the series, in fact like I would say, 'Bharat ka Icon'. That was it. I think Sachin Tendulkar played an unbelievably big role in Yuvraj Singh's World Cup. I call it Yuvraj Singh's World Cup because you name it, he was there in that situation in the centre,” he added later.
