"Sometimes, you come up short on one occasion." - Brian Lara on India's 'Final' defeat
In the same line of events, former legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara also shared his views on India’s ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. Lara also opened up that he was one of those cricket fans or experts who wanted to see India lift the trophy.
“I won't say they are struggling. They played their best cricket in the World Cup. I think what we experience is how powerful what we perceive to be failure is - which is the Australians losing a couple of matches, understanding where they had to play, and where they have to improve,” said Brian Lara to ANI.
“India - everything is going in their direction and obviously they just had to play their best cricket to come out on top. But sometimes, you come up short on one occasion and against a team like Australia, you can't let them in. I think it was a great final. Unfortunately, our team didn't win. I too supported India and wanted to see them raise the trophy. But hopefully next time,” he added later.
Now, India are in action in the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia, they won the first match of the series, played at the ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. In the absence of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the team is playing under the captaincy of star batter Suryakumar Yadav.
