It seems that the debate among the cricket experts or the former cricketers around the T20I future of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli is not going to end soon. A lot of former cricketers came up with a lot of different opinions on the same concern suggesting various things on the question if the two veterans should continue their stint in the shortest format.

In the same line of events, former star Indian pacer Ashish Nehra also joined the bandwagon and shared his thoughts; he spoke in length about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future in T20I cricket considering the T20 World Cup 2024.

"If Rohit Sharma wants to play, they have to compete with him." - Ashish Nehra

Ashish Nehra feels that age should not be any criterion for deciding the stint of any player in any format of the game, be it a senior player or a youngster.

“Age is no criterion. What matters is how many runs you are scoring. We spoke about Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shubman Gill... but if Rohit Sharma wants to play, they have to compete with him. Here is a 36-year-old super-youngster, fearless guy. When we talk about Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma, again -- T20 World Cup is very far -- if they want to play and they are scoring runs, youngsters will have to beat them to make a place in the XI,” said Nehra on Jio Cinema.

“Loss in the ODI World Cup shouldn't make a difference. How those two think is the most important part. Virat Kohli is scoring runs in IPL, Rohit Sharma is performing, any selector will be tempted and they will have discussions unless they announce their retirement, which I hope won't be the case in the near future,” he added later.

Talking about current action for Team India, the second-string team led by the star batter Suryakumar Yadav, is currently in action in the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia. The men in blue are currently leading the series by 1-0 with a win by 2 wickets in the first match of the series.
