The star South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj has been in the headlines of social media for the last couple of days. It all started after the in-stadia DJ used to play the devotional song ‘Ram Siya Ram Jai Jai Ram’ on Keshav Maharaj’s entry both in the recently concluded Test series and earlier in the ODI series as well.
It also compelled India’s stand-in ODI skipper on the SA tour, KL Rahul to ask Maharaj, “Every time you enter, they play that song” in the ODI series. Apart from that, everyone was quite thrilled with this thing and also curious about the reason behind the same.
"It's a nice feeling to hear 'Ram Siya Ram' being played." - Keshav Maharaj on his entry song
In the same line of events, the star Proteas spinner himself revealed the reason behind this song on his entry into the stadium. He opened up that the person who requested this song was none other than himself before making it to the ground.
"It was something I put forward to the media lady and requested that song to be played. For me, God's been my greatest blessing and if I get an opportunity it's the least I can do and it gets you in the zone and get that respect from other players. Respecting religion and culture is important but it's a nice feeling to hear 'Ram Siya Ram' being played in the background," said Maharaj during an interview with PTI.
Furthermore, the Durban Super Giants skipper also spoke about the second edition of the SA20, which is set to commence tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10, 2024. The tournament opener will be played between the defending champions Sunrisers Easter Cape and Joburg Super Kings.
“We have a balanced squad, excited to see boys hitting the straps. We saw really good wickets last year,” said Maharaj on his team’s preparations for the tournament.
“It's a case of assessing conditions. If conditions allow me to do that, I will bowl, if not then I will assess when to bowl but be a good leader on the field and make good decisions tactically. Hopefully, the team can feed off that and the results will take care of itself,” he added later on being asked about his bowling in the powerplay
