In another shocking turnaround of events for the Pakistan Cricket Team, the bowling coach Morne Morkel has resigned from his role as the bowling coach of the national men’s cricket team of Pakistan. The decision from the former South African bowling great came in the aftermath of the embarrassing exit of the men in green from the ODI World Cup 2023.

The team could win only 4 out of the 5 matches, they played in the league stage of the tournament. The bowling attack of the Pakistan Cricket Team also conceded a lot of runs and got hammered by the batters of almost all the participating teams in the tournament.

“Morne Morkel has resigned as the bowling coach of the Pakistan Men’s team. The former South Africa fast bowler joined the Pakistan team on a six-month contract in June this year. Morkel’s first assignment with the men’s team was their tour to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series,” reads the official statement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

“Pakistan Cricket Board will announce his replacement in due course. Pakistan's next assignment is a three-match Test series against Australia scheduled to take place from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024, in Australia,” the statement adds further.

Pakistan bowlers endured a miserable run of form in ODI World Cup 2023

Notably, the Pakistan pacers, including Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi conceded a lot of runs throughout the tournament. Even, Haris Rauf ended up as the most expensive bowler in the entire tournament. He conceded 533 runs in 79.0 overs to scalp 16 wickets, he bowled in the 9 innings of the 9 matches of the league stage he played for Pakistan.

On the other hand, the star pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi conceded 481 runs in 81.0 overs, he bowled in the 9 innings of the 9 matches of the league stage of the tournament, to scalp 18 wickets.
