In a recent piece of news, the Gujarat Titans appointed Shubman Gill as the skipper of the team for the next season of the Indian Premier League in 2024. The decision from the management came after the massive all-cash trade of Hardik Pandya to his former franchise Mumbai Indians. Hardik’s trade has been confirmed by the franchise on the IPL retention day on Sunday, November 26.
Notably, Shubman Gill won the orange cap with his excellent batting performances throughout the entire Indian Premier League 2023. Now, he will be taking over the leadership charges from the former skipper Hardik Pandya, who is now a part of the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians.

In the same line of events the Director of Cricket for Gujarat Titans, Vikram Solanki also spoke about Shubman Gill being appointed as the new skipper of the team for the Indian Premier League 2024 edition.
“Shubman Gill has shown growth in stature and standing over the last two years at the highest level of the game. We've seen him mature not only as a batter but also as a leader in cricket. His contribution on the field has helped Gujarat Titans emerge as a formidable force, guiding the team through a successful campaign in 2022 and a strong run in 2023. His maturity and skill is evident in his on-field performance and we are extremely excited to embark on a new journey with a young leader like Shubman at the helm,” said Vikram Solanki about Shubman Gill’s new journey as a captain of GT.
Furthermore, Solanki also expressed his opinions about Hardik Pandya’s tenure as captain of the Gujarat Titans and the latter’s role in the team’s success in two consecutive seasons of Indian Premier League 2022 and 2023, respectively.
“As the first captain of Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya has helped the franchise deliver two fantastic seasons that resulted in winning one IPL championship and one appearance in the final. He has now expressed a desire to return to his original team Mumbai Indians. We respect his decision and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours,” Solanki said.
