At Willowmoore Park in Benoni the Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2024 final, was just a repeat of the senior men’s ODI World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia. The Aussies won the summit clash of the tournament by 79 runs to clinch their fourth title in the U19 World Cup history.

India U19 and Australia U19 locked horns in the title clash of the Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2024. The Aussie skipper Hugh Weibgen won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, Australia posted a very good total of 253 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 50 overs at the tricky surface of Willowmoore Park.

Middle-order batter Harjas Singh scored 55 runs off 64 balls, with 3 sixes and 3 fours with the bat, alongside three 40+ contributions from Harry Dixon, skipper Hugh Weibgen, and Oliver Peake.

Raj Limbani was one of the most economical bowlers for India in the first innings as he scalped 3 wickets just at the cost of 38 runs in his quota of 10 overs. Besides him, Naman Tiwari also picked 2 wickets, alongside one wicket each claimed by Saumy Pandey and Musheer Khan.

India crumbled during the run-chase

While chasing the target, opener Adarsh Singh and lower order batter Murugan Abhishek were the only batters to play the knocks of 47 and 42 runs, respectively amidst a batting collapse for India in the second innings.

On the back of Adarsh and Abhishek’s struggle, India managed to score 170 runs, losing their all wickets; they fell 80 runs short of the target and lost the match by 79 runs. Eventually, the hopes of India U19 for their record-extending sixth U19 WC title were crushed at the final step of the tournament, with a defeat against the Aussies.

The Indian cricket fans who bear the pain of the ODI World Cup 2023 final defeat were disappointed once again as Australia got better of India once again in the summit clash of a marquee international tournament.

Here’s how fans reacted to India’s defeat in the U19 World Cup 2024 final:
