Mohammed Shami reacts to the 'Afraid to perform sajdah' controversy on him. During the game against England in the ODI World Cup 2023, many criticized Shami for it. The point was that Shami did not offer prayers (Sajdah) after claiming a  wicket in the match. Many doubted Shami if he was afraid to perform it on the big stage and some asked if he was ashamed to be a muslim.

Shami has reacted to it in an interview. The question was asked about the game against England. "There was one match where you took five wickets and then kneeled on the ground. Then from Pakistan, on social media, there came posts that said 'Mohammed Shami is an Indian Muslim. He wants to do Sajda (prayer), but he was afraid to do it in India," asked the anchor.

Shami had a reluctant reaction to it and seemed to be irritated by the question of the anchor. He still went on to answer the question. "If I wanted to pray, who could stop me? I won't stop anyone from praying. If I want to pray, I will pray. What's the problem in this? I will say it with pride that I am a Muslim. I will say it with pride that I am an Indian. What's the problem with that?" questioned Shami.

You tell me where you have to pray, and I will go and pray there - Mohammed Shami

It was during the games against England and Sri Lanka that Shami looked at his threatening best. In one of those games, Shami was noticed bending a bit after he claimed a wicket. The misconception on the internet began exactly from there. Many people from different parts of the globe started questioning Shami on social media.

"If I have to ask permission to pray from someone, then why should I be in this country? Have I ever prayed after taking a 5-wicket haul before? I have taken many five-wicket hauls. You tell me where you have to pray, and I will go and pray there," added Mohammed Shami who was nominated for Arjuna Award recently.
