Namibia batter scores fastest T20I century few months ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

The young Namibian batter completed his century off just 33 deliveries during a T20I against Nepal to break the record ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

In the first T20I match between T20 World Cup 2024 participants, Nepal and Namibia, Eagles batter Jan Nicol-Loftie Eaton has hit the fastest T20I hundred. Batting first, the visitors, Namibia had a poor start as they lost three wickets for 62 runs. This includes the wicket of Jan Frylinck, who was one of the heroes of their side’s first win against a Test-playing team, Sri Lanka in 2022.

Meanwhile, at 62/3, the likes of Eaton and Malan Kruger put together 135 runs in just 8.4 overs. Thanks to this, the African side reached 206/4 after being 62/3 in 10.4 overs. During this, Eaton scored 101 off just 36 balls including 11 fours and eight sixes. He completed his hundred in just 33 balls, going past Kushal Malla, who was against Eaton in this game.

The Nepal international hit a 34-ball 100 against Mongolia in the Asian Games 2023 in China. Meanwhile, in this game, the home team went for the chase despite losing two wickets for 20 runs. Malla and skipper Rohit Paudel put together 57 runs for the third wicket in just 4.4 overs. Both batters got starts but failed to go longer.

David Miller and Rohit Sharma held the record of the fastest T20I hundred till last year

Dipendra Singh Airee, who has the fastest T20I fifty to his name, in just nine balls, scored 48 off 32 balls while Sompal Kami (26) played a cameo. In the end, the Rhinos got all-out for 186 runs, losing the game by 20 runs. Ruben Trumpelmann, who was the architect of Namibia’s first-ever win in T20 WCs in 2021, took a four-for. On the other hand, Bernard Scholtz, Jan Frylinck, and Eaton took two each. 

Meanwhile, till the Asian Games last year, India skipper Rohit Sharma and South Africa’s middle-order batter David Miller scored a 35-ball hundred each in 2017. While the latter did it against Bangladesh, Sharam did it against Sri Lanka.
