India registered their second consecutive win in the ODI World Cup 2023 with a convincing win over Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

India completely outmuscled Afghanistan by 8 wickets in the second match of their ODI World Cup campaign to register the second consecutive win in the tournament. Both teams played this match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, in Delhi on Wednesday. Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and decided to bat first.

Batting first, Afghanistan posted a decent total of 272 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Skipper Shahidi played a brilliant knock of 80 runs, alongside Azmatullah Omarzai’s 62-run knock.

Indian pacers scalped a total of 6 wickets, including 4 and two wickets picked by Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, respectively. Other than these two, Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur also bagged one wicket each.

While chasing the target, the opening pair of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and young batter, Ishan Kishan stitched a sensational partnership of 156 runs for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma smashed a swashbuckling century, scoring 131 runs off just 84 balls, hitting 16 fours and 5 sixes with the willow. Following this, former skipper Virat Kohli also scored a half-century, with 55 runs, hitting 6 fours.

On the back of these knocks, India comfortably chased down the target of 273 runs in just 35 overs to win the match by a massive margin of 8 wickets. Rashid Khan was the only wicket-taker for Afghanistan, scalping 2 wickets in his 8 overs.

Apart from the action of the match, the fans also witnessed a special moment at the end of the match, which was related to the undeclared rivalry between Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq and former Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Both the players were the highlights of this match as they were facing off each other for the first time after a heated altercation in the IPL 2023. 

But here at the end of the match between India and Afghanistan, both the players shook hands with each other and met with shiny smiles on their faces. The video of this moment also went viral on social media.
