In a recent piece of news, Sri Lanka Cricket Board has announced that they are adding two additional travelling reserves, alongside the main squad in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, in India. The announcement was made from the official X handle of the Sri Lanka Cricket. The Board has decided to add former skipper and veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews to the travelling reserves, alongside the star pacer Dushmantha Chameera.
Both players will join the Sri Lankan squad tomorrow, Friday, October 20, just a day before the team’s match against the Netherlands, which will be the fourth match of their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.
“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that Angelo Mathews and Dushmantha Chameera will join the team in India as travelling reserves. The Sri Lanka Cricket Selectors took this decision in order to ensure that the team has ready replacements in place to face contingencies, such as an injury to an existing squad member,” reads an official X post from Sri Lanka Cricket.
Here's a look at the official tweet of Sri Lanka Cricket:

“Accordingly, Angelo Mathews and Dushmantha Chameera will join the team tomorrow. Sri Lanka’s next game will be against the Netherlands, which will be played in Lucknow on October 21st,” the tweet adds further.
Notably, Sri Lanka are looking in a very miserable condition during the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, with India amongst all 10 participating teams. They are the only side who haven’t won even one match out of the three matches, they played so far. Meanwhile, the Islanders also faced a big blow when their regular skipper Dasun Shanaka got ruled out of the remainder of the ODI World Cup 2023 due to an injury.
Star opener Kusal Mendis was announced as the stand-in skipper of the side for the remaining part of this prestigious cricket quadrennial. The match against the Netherlands is going to be a tough task for Sri Lanka as the latter are coming off with a sensational 38-run win over the mighty South Africans.
