PCB ends central contract of star pacer Haris Rauf for denying availability in Test Series against Australia

Haris Rauf was one of the most expensive bowlers among all the participating teams in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, as he conceded more than 500 runs in the tournament.

In a recent piece of news, the Pakistan Cricket Board terminated the central contract of star Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf. The new regime of PCB under the leadership of newly appointed Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has taken this step after a probe into Rauf’s refusal to join the Test squad of Pakistan Cricket Team for the three-match Test Series against Australia 2023-24.

PCB announced its decision in an official statement through a media release; apart from revoking the central contract, the cricket board has also announced ‘no NOC’ for Haris Rauf to appear in the foreign franchise leagues up to June 30, 2024.

Here’s a look at PCB’s official statement about Haris Rauf

“Fast bowler Haris Rauf has been penalized by Pakistan Cricket Board, following a probe into his refusal to join Pakistan’s Test squad for the tour of Australia 2023-24. After a thorough hearing process conducted by a PCB committee and taking into consideration the views of all stakeholders involved in the matter, Haris’ central contract has been terminated from December 1, 2023, and no NOC (No objection certificate) to play any foreign league will be granted up to June 30, 2024,” reads a PCB statement through an official media release.

“The PCB management provided a chance for a personal hearing to Haris in compliance with the principles of natural justice on 30 January 2024 and his response was found unsatisfactory. The PCB states that playing for Pakistan is the ultimate honour and privilege for any sportsperson. Refusal to be part of Pakistan's Test squad in the absence of any medical report or justifiable reason is a material violation of the central contract,” the statement adds further.

Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Team played the three-match Test Series against Australia under the captaincy of newly appointed Test skipper Shan Masood. However, it was not an expected series for Shan Masood’s men and they lost the series with a clean sweep by a straight margin of 0-3.
