Pakistan Cricket Board has once again taken its guard for another potential ‘off-the-field’ face-off with the Indian Cricket Board. Notably, Pakistan will be hosting the Champions Trophy 2025. However, the signing of the agreements on hosting rights is yet to be done between the Pakistan Cricket Board and Cricket’s Governing Body.

Possibilities for Pakistan hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 are still under conundrum owing to their political and diplomatic tussles with their neighbour and one of the cricketing giants, India. Earlier, tensions went on to rise when India denied travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023; it forced the organizing authorities to shift India’s matches to Sri Lanka.

In the same line of events, PCB is taking every step very cautiously to make sure about the complete hosting of the marquee international tournament; the cricket board has now contacted the Cricket’s Governing Body to finish the signing formalities regarding the hosting agreements of the tournament. Apart from this, PCB also went on to put their terms and conditions before Cricket’s Governing Boady as they came up with a demand for compensation in case of India’s another denial for travelling to Pakistan to play in the Champions Trophy 2025 owing to the political and diplomatic ‘tug-of-war’ between both countries.

“Pakistani officials discussed the probability of the Indian board again refusing to send its team to Pakistan and made it clear that in any given situation the governing body must avoid taking unilateral decisions on the tournament,” said a Pakistan Cricket Board source to PTI.

“The PCB officials said many top teams had toured Pakistan in the last two years without any security concerns. They also made it clear that in case India do not send their team and their matches are moved to another country, then the governing body must compensate Pakistan for this,”

Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Team was recently in India to play the ODI World Cup 2023, which was hosted entirely by India. Babar Azam-led side was knocked out from the league stage of the tournament after losing 5 out of the total 9 matches, they played in the tournament.
