Australia registered the second consecutive win in their ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, in India after defeating Pakistan in their fourth match of the tournament. The Aussies won by 62 runs in the high-scoring affair at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, October 20. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and asked the Aussies to bat first at an almost flat surface of Chinnaswamy.
Batting first, the Australian openers, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh completely outmuscled the Pakistan bowling attack and stitched an unbelievable opening partnership of 259 runs for in 33.5 overs before Shaheen Afridi trapped Mitchell Marsh followed by consecutive dismissal of Glenn Maxwell.
The veteran Southpaw David Warner played a swashbuckling knock of 163 runs off just 124 balls with 14 fours and 9 sixes, alongside his opening mate, Mitchell Marsh who smashed 121 runs, hitting 10 fours and 9 sixes with the willow.
On the back of these two amazing centuries, Australia managed to post a big total of 367 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs despite losing wickets at the regular intervals after the departure of their opening pair.
Star Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi scalped a five-wicket haul to help Pakistan restrict the Aussies from scoring a 400+ total. Other than Shaheen, Haris Rauf also picked 3 wickets, alongside one wicket bagged by Usama Mir.
Pakistan batting fumbles once again after a good start
While chasing the target, Pakistan had a brilliant opening start from Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique; the duo stitched a commendable partnership of 134 runs for the first wicket. But then came the time once again after match against India when Pakistan started losing wickets at quick intervals and finally, they could manage to score a total of 305 runs after losing all wickets.
Eventually, Australia won the match by 62 runs to enter into the top-4 teams in the points table of the tournament. The star opener David Warner won the ‘Player of the Match award for his sensational match-defining knock of 163 runs in Australia’s favour.
