Indian Cricket Board's cameraman passes away Source: 'Twitter'

In a shocking moment for the Indian broadcasting fraternity, one of the Indian Cricket Board’s most senior and experienced cameramen Kamalanadimuthu Thiruvalluvan suddenly passed away. The reason death of the stalwart cameraman has not been made public but it came out as tragic news to all those who knew him closely.

To pay condolences to the veteran cameraman, the entire production crew of the entire match between India and England at Ranchi was seen wearing a black armband around their arms. He was popularly known as ‘Thiru’ by those close to the person.

The news came as a shock to everyone because ‘Thiru’ was handling Camera 5 during the inaugural match of WPL 2024 on February 2024. He was fine and worked during the entirety of the opening match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. The Indian Cricket Board also pay homage to their deceased employee through social media.

The India Board wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “The Indian Cricket Board production crew wore black armbands in memory of Thiru who passed away yesterday. Our heart goes out to his near and dear ones and the Indian Cricket Board offers its condolences to his family.”

Harsha Bhogle expresses shock at the tragic news

Popular cricket broadcaster and analyst Harsh Bhogle who knew ‘Thiru’ in person expressed his grief and shock at the tragic news. Harsha Bhogle shared some fond memories of him with ‘Thiru’ and referred to him as one of the pioneers in the Indian broadcasting fraternity.

Bhogle tweeted, “Absolutely shocking news. The ever-smiling Thiru was a top man. At a time when Indian cameramen weren't yet rated, Thiru made the mid-wicket camera all his own and was excellent. Every time we met, I would sing out his full name and he would offer his toothy smile in return. Terrible news.”

Thiru’s Contribution to Indian Cricket

 Kamalanadimuthu Thiruvalluvan has held the reigns of the camera covering Indian cricket for quite a long time. He was a part of the transformational shift of Indian cricket and broadcasting after the historic 1991 reforms and the influx of foreign broadcasting companies and investment in India.

He has seen the likes the Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Harmanpreet Kaur blossom in international cricket and has covered their journey with his camera.
